Slogans
Replacing an argument with a catchy line.
In our replies we call it: Slogan, no reason
What it means
A slogan packs a whole position into a short, memorable line. It's easy to repeat and hard to question, because there's no argument inside it to examine.
How to spot it in a Reel
- A rhyming or punchy line used as the conclusion
- Hashtag phrases as arguments
- Chants or catchphrases instead of reasons
Examples
- A Reel ends a complex policy debate with a three-word chant.
- A Reel answers criticism with a party's campaign tagline.
Why it doesn't hold up
A slogan can be true or false, but it can't show which. Ask what claim it stands for and check that.
What to say back
"What does that mean concretely, and is it true?"
Questions
Are slogans always manipulative?
No, every campaign uses them. They become a trick when they replace the argument entirely.
