Conversation-stopper
Using a cliché to shut down further thought.
In our replies we call it: Shuts down questions
What it means
Conversation-stoppers ("it is what it is", "that's just politics", "wake up", "do your own research") end a discussion without answering anything. They make further questions feel naive.
How to spot it in a Reel
- "Wake up" or "open your eyes" as the final word
- "That's just how it is"
- "If you don't see it, you never will"
Examples
- A Reel ends a contested claim with "the truth hurts, wake up".
- A Reel dismisses evidence against it with "they'll never tell you the truth".
Why it doesn't hold up
A cliché isn't a reason. If the claim is solid, it should survive more questions, not fewer.
What to say back
"That doesn't answer it. What's the actual evidence?"
Questions
What's another name for this?
