Fear appeal
Using fear to push a conclusion.
In our replies we call it: Scares you
What it means
A fear appeal makes you scared first and thinks for you second: dramatic music, warnings, worst-case scenarios. Scared viewers share faster and check less.
How to spot it in a Reel
- "Share before it's deleted"
- Alarming music, red text, countdowns
- Threats to your family, religion or country with no source
Examples
- "Your children are in danger, share this now" over an old video from another country.
- A health Reel claiming a common food is "poison" without studies.
Why it doesn't hold up
Fear is a feeling, not evidence. Real warnings come with sources you can check.
What to say back
"Scary, but where's the evidence, and who confirmed it?"
Questions
Is every alarming Reel a fear appeal?
No. Serious, verified dangers deserve alarm. It's a trick when the fear replaces the evidence.
