False choice
Pretending there are only two options.
In our replies we call it: Only two choices
What it means
A false choice (false dilemma) gives you two options as if nothing else exists: "Either you support this, or you're against the country".
How to spot it in a Reel
- "Either... or..." framing
- "If you're not with us, you're against us"
- No middle ground or third option mentioned
Examples
- "Either you support this law or you support terrorists."
- "Either you vote for them or you hate democracy."
Why it doesn't hold up
Most real questions have many possible positions: support with changes, partial support, other priorities.
What to say back
"Why only these two options? What about...?"
Questions
What is a false dilemma example?
"You either love this phone or you know nothing about tech."
