One person = everyone
Judging a whole group by one person's act.
In our replies we call it: One person = everyone
What it means
This trick (hasty generalisation) takes one person's act and pins it on everyone who shares their religion, caste, region, profession or party. It's often combined with highlighting an identity that has nothing to do with what happened.
How to spot it in a Reel
- The accused's religion or caste in the headline
- "This is what they do"
- One incident presented as a pattern
Examples
- A Reel about an attack highlights the attacker's nationality and religion, implying a whole community is dangerous.
- A Reel about one corrupt official says the whole department or party is corrupt.
Why it doesn't hold up
One person's act says nothing about millions who share their identity. Patterns need data, not one case.
What to say back
"That's one person. What does the data say about the group?"
Questions
Why mention someone's religion in a crime Reel?
Unless investigators link it to the crime, it's irrelevant, and it invites viewers to blame a whole community.
