India is stable due to institutions, unlike burning European nations?
Checked 19 Oct 2026
The video presents a misleading comparison by portraying Europe as torn by violent unrest while framing India as completely peaceful and stable. While several European nations have seen protests over issues like housing and education, India is far from free of turmoil. The claim ignores major ongoing conflict within India, including severe ethnic violence in Manipur that has claimed hundreds of lives, as well as large-scale protests and detentions in its capital.
The post we checked
Do not take Indiaโs stability or the institutions protecting it for granted.
The trick: Picks only some facts
It shows the facts that fit and leaves out those that don't (known as cherry-picking).
"France ๐ซ๐ท is burning. Spain ๐ช๐ธ is burning. Italy ๐ฎ๐น is burning. Belgium ๐ง๐ช is burning. Albania ๐ฆ๐ฑ is burning. India ๐ฎ๐ณ is not."
How this trick works and how to answer it โ
What we checked
How it plays you
It wants you to think: "India is completely peaceful and its institutions prevent unrest, unlike failing European democracies."
Highlighting unrest in Europe while ignoring deadly conflicts in India creates a false contrast. According to government figures, ethnic violence in Manipur killed 258 people and displaced 60,000, while Human Rights Watch reported crackdowns on thousands of peaceful protesters in Indian cities.
- Exaggeration: "France ๐ซ๐ท is burning.". It uses dramatic phrases like 'burning' for multiple countries to overstate the collapse of stability during localized policy and cost-of-living protests.
- Insinuation by question: "Have you asked why?". It uses a leading question to push the viewer into attributing India's situation to institutional superiority without presenting comparative evidence.
