Govt lost ₹3L cr on SGBs and stopped gold SIPs?
Checked 17 Oct 2026
The post misleadingly claims that existing gold fund SIPs have been stopped and that the government lost ₹3 lakh crore on Sovereign Gold Bonds. In reality, existing SIPs in Gold FoFs continue uninterrupted, direct Gold ETF purchases remain available, and the alleged bond loss is mathematically impossible given the total amount raised. What is true is that India received $140 billion in foreign currency deposits through FCNR accounts and related measures, according to Kalkine reports.

What we checked
How it plays you
- Overstating restrictions: "अगर आपकी कोई SIP चल रही थी gold fund में, वो आप नहीं कर पाओगे।". It falsely claims that existing ongoing SIPs are stopped to create panic, when mutual funds only paused fresh subscriptions and new SIPs.
- Causal oversimplification: "वो लाने के लिए आपको 70 billion का reserves खत्म करना पड़ा।". It attributes complex foreign exchange reserve deployments by the central bank directly to a simple loss ratio for a single rupee move.
