BJP has ₹10,000 crore and Congress has ₹100 crore?
Checked 13 Oct 2026 · Updated 15 Oct 2026
It is true that the BJP's cash and bank deposits reached nearly ₹10,000 crore by 2024-2025, according to Election Commission data. However, the Reel cherry-picks the lowest reported figure for the Congress party's finances; while one dataset puts it at ₹133 crore, other Election Commission figures from March 2024 show Congress with over ₹850 crore. The claims about the number of offices each party owns are not supported by the provided evidence.

The post we checked
When political parties start looking like investment portfolios. 📈😂 Imagine if political funding had a stock ticker. The returns would be a bigger debate than…

What we checked
What the Reel doesn't tell you
- Figures provided to the Election Commission place the Congress party's cash and bank balance at ₹857.15 crore as of March 31, 2024.
How it plays you
It wants you to think: "The BJP's massive wealth accumulation is inherently corrupt and hypocritical given its anti-corruption slogans, while the Congress has been financially decimated."
Comparing political party funding to stock market investments oversimplifies complex financial realities and political structures. Furthermore, the post understates Congress's actual bank balance and declared assets to exaggerate the financial gap.
- Exaggerated stock market analogy: "if the BJP were a publicly listed company and we had invested in its shares 12 years ago, we might have been sitting on…". It compares political party funding to stock market investments to dramatize party wealth accumulation, oversimplifying complex financial realities and political structures.
- Cherry-picking data: "Congress... reportedly has only around ₹100 crore in its accounts". It selects the lowest reported figure cited by a party treasurer to make the opposition look financially decimated, while ignoring official Election Commission data showing a much higher balance.
