Two Election Commissioners formally objected that major decisions were being made in the name of the full Election Commission without their knowledge, calling them unauthorized and illegal.
"two ECIs said major decisions were being made in the name of the full Election Commission without their knowledge, several of which they called “unauthorised and illegal”." The Hindu, 2026-09-24
Election Commission of India response: "the ECI responded saying that all its actions have been in accordance with laws and instructions of the Commission." The Hindu
The trick: "What about them?"
It answers a criticism by pointing at someone else's wrongs instead (known as whataboutism).
"When Congress wins the election in places like Karnataka, Kerala, why don't we hear the same level of outrage about the electoral system?"

What we checked
What each side says
How it tries to persuade you
It wants you to think: "The opposition is fabricating fake outrage about the electoral system solely to stay relevant."
The demand for resignation was not fabricated for attention; it was triggered by a media expose revealing that two Election Commissioners had formally recorded objections at least 14 times over 10 months.
- Exaggeration of allegations: "Eighty lakhs fake votes were registered of the Bangladeshi people.". It inflates the allegations to make the situation sound far more extreme. The actual political allegations raised by the BJP and JD(S) in Karnataka claimed 20 to 25 lakh illegal migrants, not 80 lakh.
- Name-calling: "#cockroachjantaparty". It uses dehumanizing insect labels to mock and devalue the opposition party instead of addressing their arguments.
